A lawyer telling you how to save money on fees? Crazy, right!? Actually, we encourage all of our clients to do the following so that they don’t have to spend more money on our fees than necessary.
First, get yourself organized! Keep an organized folder of your tax returns, bank statements, credit reports, savings/pension/retirement funds.
Second, be candid with your lawyer. You do not want your lawyer blindsided by information that wasn’t disclosed.
Third, pick your battles wisely. Everyone has heard about couples fighting over old pots and pans. We don’t recommend that. It’s far easier to simply concede some battles for the sake of finality, rather than spend more money on attorney fees.
